inspired space

inspired by yesterdays post, i thought i'd put together a little shopping list of my own to get that slimmed-down parisian style.  i think the key is to look for simple shapes and to find decorative objects that can stand to be the center of attention.  trust me, this is  not always easy.

flex space

so yes, i've been a bit m-i-a, buried in a couple different projects and thus neglectful of other interests, yikes! anyway, a client of mine enjoys the occasional impromptu dance party but she lives in tight quarters. this got me to thinking about pieces that you could just fold up when the dance moment arises. how fun! here are some [very quick] ideas...

eye on: wearstler's malibu sanctuary

kelly W knows whats up.  she's got such an amazing collection of sculpture and furniture, making for a really interesting, rich space.  not to mention the ocean view...not a bad backdrop.  these shots come from kelly framel at the glamourai as she and fellow blogging/photog friend, jamie were insanely lucky enough to borrow the beach house for one incredible shoot!

weekend rally

i did a little browsing over the weekend, constantly on the lookout for interesting items, great accessories and always, always, always a great vintage lamp.  i'm often made fun of for murmuring (in all seriousness) "i love lamp".  anyway, here are some fabulous finds and diy components for you to peruse.  all via etsy or ebay

column 2: ottoman; ceramics; lamp

casual elegance

once in a while i come across an image of some thing or some place that i can not get out of my mind. this home was featured in the january issue of elle decoration uk. the space is so comfortable and casual looking but it also has an elegance to it that i really love. the chairs are amazing, covered in an eggplant velvet.

new beginnings

i've been on hiatus, working for a stint at a boutique interiors firm in manhattan. while i learned a lot, not only about design but about people, i am happy to turn the page. im in the middle of planning my wedding and thinking about what sort of "tools" for living we might one day have. my interests are always changing and my attention span short, but i am consistently drawn to smokey blacks, creamy whites, the sparkle of glass and the occasional colorful surprise.
things i covet:
black basalt wedgworth
vintage bar ware

wood or metal?

a recent article in elle decoration magazine featured the collections of patrick seguin, a parisian gallerist specializing in 20th century modern furnishings - items done by the grandmammies and daddies of the modernest movement such as charlotte perriand, jean prouvé, pierre jeanneret, le corbusier, jean royére, georges jouve, and serge mouille. seguin's own apartment is filled with treasures from this collection of designers with "the only concession to frivolity" being a ruby red sofa by royére and a jeff koons mirror. what is it about this furniture that we love so much? is it the expression of materiality and mechanics rather than superfluous decoration? of course it is open for interpretation. i really just love the architecture of it, each piece is a treasure to be examined and appreciated over and over again.
i love that mirror.
