conscious re-creation

continuing with the theme of making every dollar count...

this room seems so natural and comfortable to me.  i love the neutral tones, the use of natural woven materials like the sisal carpet and the silk throw pillows - this with the little burst of a fresh shade of green.  i gathered some ideas on how you might recreate the look without completely emptying the wallet.

getting green

i love the green of spring, the way it contrasts with the shades of grey left behind from winter. here in nyc we're just starting to see some little baby sprigs fighting their way up through layers of dirt and sand left behind from way too many snowy days. this got me thinking about gardens and some work done by one of my favorite shops in austin, tx.

terrariums

back in elementary school we were put to the task of constructing terrariums in big glass containers and i've been thinking lately of creating a new one (once i'm done moving). so i went searching for some inspiration and came across paula hayes who creates these amazing little environments in wonderful glass blobs...some not so little. plants really do make a space feel more cheerful and alive. just to know there's a beautiful little green life that depends on you for the occasional watering is kind of nice. i then discovered hayes's other projects like living necklaces...
which instantly reminded me of a project in the works by debi van zyl who has been knitting moss pockets out of metal thread
